New Employee Required Forms

Orientation

  • All new hires who are benefits-eligible need to attend a New Employee Orientation (NEO).  NEO is held once every 2-3 weeks.  New hires must attend within 30 days of employment.  There is a separate New Faculty Orientation (NFO) for fall new hires, but faculty can attend an NEO if they cannot attend the NFO, or if they are hired late or in the spring/summer.

New Hire Employment Packet

  • New employees are required to complete the forms in this packet and return all to the Office of Human Resources (OHR) within 3 days of employment.
  • A packet is mailed out to all new employees with a welcome letter and notification of the date they are scheduled to attend New Employee Orientation (when the OHR is notified by the hiring department of the new hire in a timely manner).
  • Forms can also be provided at New Employee Orientation or picked up in the OHR in advance.

Retirement Forms

  • All regular employees (hired in a position for 4.5 months or longer and 50% time or more) are required by state law to participate in a retirement program.  All regular staff are required to participate in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS).  All regular faculty are required to participate in TRS unless/until the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) is elected within 90 days of hire.

  • Full-time faculty and certain administrative employees are offered the option to elect the Texas Optional Retirement Program (ORP) in lieu of TRS.  Eligible employees are given 90 days from the date of ORP-eligible employment to make a one-time choice to relinquish membership in TRS and become a participant in the ORP.  The decision to participate in TRS or ORP is extremely important because it is a one time irrevocable election.  ORP-eligible employees are automatically enrolled in TRS unless and until all required ORP forms (below) are submitted to the OHR within the first 90 days of employment.

  • A form related to your options is the Texas Prior State Service & TRS/ORP Form.
