HealthSelect Benefit Book

The Employees Retirement System (ERS) provides the funds to pay claims and other costs, including a fee to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas to administer HealthSelect.  Every dollar received from the State or employees is spent in either medical expenses or administrative fees.  If those expenses increase, the funds needed to reimburse our claims administrator also must increase.  State and higher education employees in all Texas counties are eligible for HealthSelect. 

HealthSelect is a Point of Service (POS) provider.  You can use HealthSelect like an HMO by staying in the network and using a primary care physician (PCP) for regular visits and have him/her refer you to specialists within the network.  You can also direct your own care by going to doctors and specialists outside of the network, called non-network.  You keep costs down in HealthSelect by staying in the network.

With HealthSelect you have:

• HealthSelect Benefit Book
• Network Doctors (see Provider Directory)
• Ability to see any physician (Non-Network) (See comparison chart for Network and Non-Network)
• ParPlan Physicians - Non-Network Doctors who accept "allowable charges"
              > from the drop down menu select "ParPlan"
• No Deductible for Network
• Coverage anywhere in the world
              >  out-side of Texas  
              >  out-side the US
• Large Pharmacy Network
              >  under "Medico Health Solutions" click "Find Pharmacy/Compare RX Costs"
