Changing Your Coverage

Eligible Qualifying Life Event / Family Status Change

  • After your initial period of eligibility for insurance, the State-level insurance program administrator, Employees Retirement System (ERS), requires that you have a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) in order to make changes to your insurance. 

  • If you have a QLE, you must make changes to your coverage within 30 days after the date of the event.  If the coverage change is not made within 30 days, you must wait until Summer Enrollment to request the change.

  • Some restrictions may apply to changes you can make, such as the requirement to prove good health through the evidence of insurability (EOI) application process.
