Purpose

The purpose of this Operating Policy and Procedure (OP) is to identify general guidelines for merit increases.

Policy

It is the policy of Texas Woman's University to distribute fairly and equitably those funds available for merit pay increases. Merit pay increase programs are implemented on an institutional wide basis to give all employees an equal opportunity for consideration, regardless of funding source. The merit increase program is implemented when funds are identified for that purpose by the institution's administration, dependent upon the availability of funds and other constraints.

It is expressly provided that agency administrators may grant merit salary increases to classified employees whose job performance and productivity is consistently above that normally expected or required. Merit increases awards must be consistent with the performance evaluation rating.

Procedure

For an employee to be eligible for a merit salary increase, the following additional criteria must be met:

1.  the employee must have been employed by TWU for at least six continuous months

      prior to the award; and

2.  at least six months must have elapsed since the employee's last promotion,

demotion, or merit salary increase; and

3.  University criteria for granting merit salary increases must include specific

criteria and documentation to substantiate the granting of merit increase.
