PURPOSE
The purpose of this TWU Human Resources Operating Policy and Procedure (TWU OP) is to establish an achievement recognition award for staff employees.


POLICY/PROCEDURE
General Policy
The Outstanding Achievement Award and the TWU Award of Excellence are the two awards included in this policy. Consideration will be given to employees who are nominated and eligible to receive an award.


1. Eligibility Criteria


    a. All full-time staff employees, below the director level, with a minimum two years

        of continuous service with Texas Woman's University, shall be eligible for

        consideration for the Outstanding Achievement Award. A minimum of five years

        of continuous service with TWU is required for the TWU Award of Excellence.

        Qualified employees nominated for the Outstanding Achievement Award are

        automatically nominated for the TWU Award of Excellence.


    b. Employees shall be selected based on outstanding achievements,

        accomplishments or services to TWU.


2. Description of Awards


    a. Outstanding Achievement Award
        The Outstanding Achievement Award consist of a cash award and a

        certificate/plaque. Employees are eligible to receive this award any number of times

        for separate accomplishments/achievements.


    b. TWU Award of Excellence
        The TWU Award of Excellence will consist of a cash award and a plaque. This

        award is designed to recognize one individual for outstanding contributions to the

        University.


3. Selection Procedure


    a. The Office of Human Resources (OHR) distributes nomination forms each year to all

        employees. Nomination forms are completed and returned with any appropriate

        supporting letters or information to the chair of the Selection Committee. Thus, all

        employees are given the opportunity to nominate and recognize peers for

        significant and outstanding contributions to TWU

    b. Department heads, deans, and vice presidents are encouraged to add supportive

        justification as appropriate and or to recommend additional employees as

        appropriate.


    c. The President will appoint a Selection Committees. The Selection Committee will

        appoint its chairperson and determine proceedings. The committee will review the

        nominations and recommend up to two individuals for the Outstanding

        Achievement Award and recommend one individual for the TWU Award of

        Excellence.


    d. The Selection Committee will forward their recommendations to the President no

        later that March 15. The Selection Committee will prepare and submit to the

        President a statement clearly and concisely describing the achievement of each

        person recommended for the awards. This statement should not exceed 25

        words.


    e. The Human Resources Department will notify Public Information of the award

        recipients and Public Information will order the appropriate award plaques. The

        OHR will contact the Presidents office to arrange for the cash award (check) for

        each recipient.
