M.S. in Exercise and Sports Nutrition

Program Description

This program will train students to help bring about lifestyle changes in exercise and nutrition habits for individuals and groups.  It will also provide students with opportunities to acquire strong research skills and applied learning experiences in both the classroom and in health-related settings.  Graduates of the program may work in:
 

  • private practice
  • hospitals
  • clinics
  • rehabilitation centers
  • government agencies
  • public schools
  • professional and amateur sports teams
  • Universities/Collegiate Athletics

 
Program Requirements

This program is administered by the College of Health Sciences and the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition and Food Sciences.

Semester Hour Requirements

  • Major Sequence 30 semester hours
  • Thesis 6 semester hours & 4-6 hours of electives
  • Professional paper 3 semester hours & 7-9 semester hours electives
  • Total credits 40-42 semester hours

Applicants must apply to and be accepted into the TWU Graduate School before they can be accepted into the Exercise and Sports Nutrition Program.  For unconditional admission applicants must present each of the following:

  • A B.S. degree in Kinesiology or Nutrition, or its equivalent.
  • A GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework with a major in either Kinesiology or Nutrition.
  • Evidence of completing the GRE with a preferred minimum score of 400 on the quantitative portion and 500 on the verbal portion and a combined score of at least a 1000.
  • Official transcripts that provide evidence of prerequisite or the equivalent of undergraduate courses in exercise physiology, kinesiology, advanced exercise physiology, human anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, elementary nutrition, advanced nutrition, and one additional upper division three hour nutrition course.
  • Two letters of recommendation and a 1-2 page statement of intent providing evidence of work and volunteer experience related to intended field of study and goals.
