Master's Degree Programs
Five Master's programs are offered within the Dept. of Nutrition and
Food Sciences. All Master's students take 3 hrs of graduate level statistics
or research design and 1 hr of seminar. A minimum of 30 hrs of course
work is required with a thesis, 36 with a professional paper and 42 with
coursework option.
M.S. in Nutrition (Denton and Houston)
TWU graduate students who seek an M.S. in Nutrition take NFS 5313 (Nutrition
and Human Metabolism) plus other graduate courses in clinical nutrition,
applied nutrion, biology or chemistry. This degree prepares students
for leadership positions as health practitioners or for advanced study
in nutrition.
M.S. in Food Science (Denton)
TWU graduate students who seek an M.S. in Food Science take NFS 5003 (Food
Chemistry) plus other graduate courses in sensory evaluation, food analysis,
product development, food technology. The M.S. Food Science degree prepares
students to work in management or research positions within the food industry.
M.S. in Food Systems Administration (Denton and Houston)
TWU graduate students who seek an M.S. in Food
Systems Administration
take NFS 5773 (Organization and Management for Foodservice Systems) plus
other graduate courses focusing on management of financial and labor resources,
food safety, quality improvement and computer applications.
Students receiving this degree are prepared for management careers in foodservice/nutrition
departments of hospitals, schools, universities and other institutions.
