Degree Options
Health Studies majors may choose between five focal areas of study within the B.S. in Health Studies degree program: Community Health, Master of Occupational Therapy Degree Preparation (BS-MOT FastTrack), Master's Degree Preparation, All Level Health Education Teaching Certification, and Applied Science. Brief descriptions are provided below. Click on each program option for a list of required courses.
Community Health
Health Studies majors who select the Community Health Area of Study are generally interested in employment in a wide variety of community health settings including worksite wellness programs, public health departments, healthcare systems, schools, voluntary health associations and other community health agencies. Although most graduates seek employment immediately following graduation, several consider the eventual possibility of entering a health-related master's degree program. These include master's degree programs in Public Health, Health Education/Promotion, and Health Care Administration.

BS/MOT Prep
Health Studies majors who are interested in working toward a Master's in Occupational Therapy, can complete this degree on the TWU Denton Campus in a shortened time frame. Students who maintain the application requirements are eligible to APPLY in their junior year of study. (no admittance guarantee!) If accepted into the MOT program, BS-MOT FastTrack students will begin OT courses at the beginning of their senior year. For information regarding the minimum GPA requirement for Master’s in Occupational Therapy, you will need to contact that specific department at 940-898-2801.

Master’s Prep
Health Studies majors who are interested in working toward a Master's or Doctorate in Physical Therapy, Public Health, Library Science, or Social Work may select one of the Master’s Prep Areas of Study. For information on the Master’s Programs, contact the specific department. Those admitted will complete the B.S. in Health Studies degree while taking preparation courses for the Master’s program. Other Master’s prep options are also available. Master’s prep tracks may be customized according to the required prerequisites of the advanced degree. See the Health Studies advisor for more details.

All Level Health Education Teaching Certification
Health Studies majors who select the All Level Health Education Teaching area of study are interested in teaching Health Education at the elementary or secondary school level. Students who plan to earn a teaching certificate must apply for admission through the Teacher Education program of the University, as well. Applied Science
The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) with a major in Health Studies will include a curriculum of thirty-six hours (36 SCH) from the Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences degree. The B.A.S. degree will include twenty-one hours in Health Studies and fifteen hours in Business. The B.A.S. will accept a variety of related AAS graduates in health professions to complete a bachelor’s degree with a Health Studies major, enabling them to advance in their careers to more diverse positions with managerial responsibilities.
