TETN - Commonly Asked Questions

1.    Do I have to find my own supervisor?

Your sponsoring educational entity is responsible for providing the required supervision.  The clinical faculty is responsible for setting up your summer externships and securing those supervisors.

2.    What is required of a supervisor?

All school based supervisors are required to attend an initial TETN-TWU supervisor training seminar and are required to attend a TETN-TWU supervisor meeting every other month.  The initial training and meetings are available through the teleconferencing system. All supervisors must supply TWU with a proof of current ASHA certification and Texas licensure.

3.    Can I work during the summer during the day?

No - You must reserve the time between 7 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday for practicum and 4 pm-8 pm Tuesdays through Thursdays for class. Summer externships require 30-35 clinic hours per week for 8 weeks.

4.    How much clinic time will be required during the normal school semester?

School semester clinic time will run approximately 5 ½ - 6 hours per week.

5.    What is an educational entity?

Public schools, private schools, charter schools, and co-op schools are all educational entities and can therefore sponsor a student.
