Prepares students to move into graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Deaf Education.  An academic minor requires 18 semester hours to be specified by the Department Chair.

Admission to Program

     Steps to Admission:

1.    Apply to The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders by completing and submitting the following three forms.

a.    Admissions & Retention Criteria

b.    Departmental Application to Undergraduate Program

c.     Departmental Student Code of Ethics

2.    Have completed 30 semester hours

3.    Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and/or a GPA of 2.75 over the last 30 semester hours of course work

4.    Students not yet eligible for admission to the Department are advised through the Academic Advising Center (office: HDB 202) – (940) 898-3850

     Retention in Program:

1.  Students must maintain overall GPA of 3.0 to remain in program.

2.    No more than two grades of C will apply toward major

3.    No major credit for grades of D or F.

4.    A class may be repeated for an improved grade only one time.

5.    Repeated courses are now charged out-of-state tuition and fees by TWU.

     TEA Certification in Education of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing:

1.    Students apply to the College of Professional Education at the end of the sophomore year.

2.    Students must meet requirements of both the College of Professional Education and the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders

3.    Some courses are taken at the undergraduate level, others at graduate level.

4.    Plan for one year of post-baccalaureate studies

Clinical/Practicum Experiences

Students are afforded observational experiences at the undergraduate level.

Career Outlook

National projections show a growing need for speech-language pathologists and teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing.  Both require a Masters degree and certification.  Preparation for each certification is  incorporated into the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
