The Student Organization of Communication Sciences (SOCS)
The Student Organization of Communication Sciences (SOCS)
is a student managed organization which encourages professional
interest among students at the university in the study of normal
and disordered communication behavior. It also provides a vehicle
of student representation in matters of professional concern.
SOCS sponsors activities for the students such as bringing in
guest speakers, sponsoring individuals to attend workshops, fund
raising, scholarships and social activities. Any student interested
in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior
is eligible for membership in SOCS. Majors in the department are
encouraged to participate. SOCS has been named as one of the outstanding
student organizations at TWU.
National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association
Students are encouraged to affiliate with professional organizations (ASHA)
(American Speech-Language-Hearing Association)
Signing Connection
TWU's well known "The Signing Connection" is a sign
choir sponsored by the department. The goal of the choir is to
connect the deaf and hearing worlds through music and sign language.
The Signing Connection performs in sign language before civic organizations and churches,
and participates in functions throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, as
well as on campus. They have also performed at Six Flags Over Texas and Sea
World of Texas. The Signing Connection is open
to all university students.
