As an emergency situation or disaster may arise at any time – it is always better to be prepared than to try to find information at the last minute. Many of us have “stories to tell” about the before, during, and aftermath of Hurricane Ike in 2008. The loss of communications (telephone, cell phones, radio, and television), city and emergency services (electricity, water, sanitation, and traffic signals), transportation (buses, light rail, airport, and vehicular gasoline), access to food and water were coupled with heavy road debris and street closures. Hurricane Ike had a devastating impact to the Houston/Galveston areas and many families will be in the recovery mode for a long time. How can we be better prepared for an emergency? What can we expect from the next hurricane season? What resources are available? Where can we find information and seek help?

Many of the questions may be answered by increasing our awareness of policies, procedures, media and support service contacts, weather trends, and planning. This website is intended to help you become more familiar with these items through the sharing/linking of information. While we have polices, checklists, contact points, and calling procedures – We can never be too prepared. So, please take a look at the following resources and share them with your family.

In addition, we highly encourage students, faculty, and staff to sign up for the PIONEER ALERT SYSTEM to receive significant emergency messages via campus computer, office telephone, or cell phone text messaging.
