The Department offers students several options for designing a personalized M.A. program that meets their interests and career goals. Students may earn the M.A. in Government by completing course work and writing a thesis, a professional paper or a paper from a capstone internship experience.
M.A. Thesis Option
At least 3 hours in U.S. politics, law, and government
At least 3 hours in global/comparative politics
At least 3 hours in political theory
At least 3 hours in politics and identities

The Department also offers a Combined History and Government Degree Plan that couples 21 hours of graduate study in government with 18 hours of graduate study in history. Graduates of the combined program write a professional paper and receive an M.A. in Government but have enough graduate hours to teach both history and government in Texas community colleges. Graduates are also qualified to teach dual credit courses in both history and government in Texas high schools.
