Explore how the rise of rock 'n roll and the public's reaction to it revealed divisions in American society regarding family relationships, sexuality, and race. Legal issues will include privacy issues (e.g., who controls Elvis's name and likeness, if he is really dead); intellectual property disputes (the U.S. Supreme Court reviews 2 Live Crew's parody of "Pretty Woman"); and responsibility for violence (did a Slayer song incite teens to commit murder?)
Memphis tours will include the Civil Rights Museum, Graceland, Sun Records, Stax Museum, and the Rock N Soul Museum.
