Department of Health Studies Attendance Policy

Face-2-face Classes

Attendance: Attendance of this class is important. If you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to let the instructor know immediately, upon your return to class, the reason for your absence if it is to be excused. Absences include leaving class any time during or after roll unless approved by the instructor ahead of time. Also, be aware that a tardy (10 or more minutes late for class) counts against attendance; three tardies are equal to 1 unexcused absence. Note that all instructors will follow the departmental policy of 3 class periods with unexcused absences in a face-2-face class resulting in failure of the course.

Hybrid Classes

Face-2-face Attendance: Attendance of this class is important. If you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to let the instructor know immediately, upon your return to class, the reason for your absence if it is to be excused. Absences include leaving class any time during or after roll unless approved by the instructor ahead of time. Also, be aware that being tardy (10 or more minutes late for class) counts against attendance. Note that all instructors will follow the departmental policy of unexcused absences of 2 or more hours for a hybrid class resulting in failure of the course.

Online Attendance: Attendance for the online portion of the hybrid class is considered to be met when you are logged in and active in the class Blackboard, i.e., posting assignments, taking quizzes, or completing Discussion Boards. If you are absent/not active in the class, it is YOUR responsibility to let the instructor know immediately, upon your return to class, the reason for your absence if it is to be excused. Note that all instructors will follow the departmental policy of 10 consecutive days of inactivity (i.e., failure to post assignments, take quizzes, or complete Discussion Boards) in the course being considered unexcused absence and resulting in failure of the course.

Both the face-2-face and online portions of the attendance policy for a hybrid course need to be met in order for the student to be considered as meeting the attendance requirements for the course.

Online Classes

Attendance: Attendance for this online class is considered when you are logged in and active in the class Blackboard, i.e., posting assignments, taking quizzes, or completing Discussion Boards. If you are absent/not active in the class, it is YOUR responsibility to let the instructor know immediately, upon your return to class, the reason for your absence if it is to be excused. Note that all instructors will follow the departmental policy of 10 consecutive days of unexcused absences/inactivity (i.e., failure to post assignments, take quizzes, or complete Discussion Boards) in an online course resulting in failure of the online course.
