Mary M. Laime has been an active member of the Center for Global Nursing Scholarship since 2008. Mary implemented the first Spanish Cultural Immersion course at TWU-Houston. It was offered as an elective during the Maymester of 2010. Students were exposed to many varied cultural experiences from our Hispanic population here in Houston, such as dietary, religious, cultural and immigration issues. Mary is also the course manager for both the Adult Health Competencies II course and the RN-BS High Acuity course.
Mary graduated from R. I. Hospital School of Nursing in 1970 received her BS, Major in Nursing from TWU in 1998 and her MS, Major in nursing from TWU in 2001 and was then invited to join the faculty at TWU -Houston. Most of Mary’s professional career has focused on critical care nursing but she also served as the nurse for a group home supervising and teaching health issues to pregnant and runaway teenage girls. She is a member of The American Association of Critical Care Nurses and has been certified by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center as an Advanced Practice Nurse-Adult Health.
Mary has continued to be active in Global nursing issues. She assisted with setting up a course for Asian Cultural Immersion taught here at TWU –Houston. She was one of the faculty along with Dr. Vi Ho and Dr. Sandra Cesario, who were able to take students to Vietnam for a cultural Immersion course in the Spring of 2012 and the spring of 2013.
