The General Studies degree requirements include:

  • Cumulative and Institutional GPA of 2.0 or better
  • Completion of Texas Core Requirements, 42 hours
  • 6 hours of Global Perspective courses
  • 36 hours of upper division Concentration Area work, 18 hours must be taken from TWU
    • Concentration Area courses must be 3000-4000 level and only grades of C or better will apply to the areas.
  • 120 hours total needed for degree
    • Elective courses may be taken to fulfill the total number of hours needed for the degree. Electives may be any level of courses from 1000-4000 and grades of D or better will be accepted.

TWU core curriculum is 42 hours of courses in the following areas:

Core Curriculum Transfer Policy

The TWU Academic Affairs, Core Curriculum web site provides a listing of courses approved for core curriculum.  In accordance with the Texas Education Code, students who have satisfactorily completed a 42 hour core curriculum at an institution of higher learning in Texas are not required to complete the core curriculum at TWU.

Core Competencies

According to the TWU General Catalog 2011 – 2013 (page 123), each student must pass a 1) computer science course (CSCI 1403 or CSCI 2433) or a competency examination in computer literacy, and 2) a speech course (SPCH 1013, BUS 3513). More information about the Computer Literacy Exam.
