The College of Health Sciences is organized into six academic components and two additional programmatic units. The College consists of the Departments of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Dental Hygiene, Health Care Administration, Health Studies, Kinesiology, and Nutrition and Food Sciences. The University Wellness Program is also housed within the College of Health Sciences. Students may pursue the degrees of Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Philosophy within the College. Academic programs within the College of Health Sciences prepare women and men to apply the natural sciences for health careers. Programs of the college develop practitioners, scholars, administrators, and researchers who focus their work on health promotion, prevention of illness, and remediation and rehabilitation of health problems. Multidisciplinary studies that encourage collaboration among the faculty characterize the academic environment of the College. Persons seeking careers in teaching Health Education, Physical Education, or the Hearing Impaired may enroll in academic majors within Health Sciences and pursue a teacher certification program in the College of Education and Human Ecology to complete entry level requirements for teaching. Major undergraduate sequences leading to baccalaureate degrees are described in the introductory sections of the departments. Practical work experiences in the form of practica, internships, clinicals, and cooperative education assignments are available as part of planned degree programs.

Core Curriculum Requirements The College of Health Sciences contributes to the Core Curriculum required content area "Science" through course offerings in Kinesiology, to the requirement for "Women's Studies," through a course in Health Studies entitled Perspectives on Women's Health and to the requirements for "Multicultural Studies," through a course in Health Studies entitled Cultural Diversity and the Health Consumer. All courses in the selected content area "Health and Fitness" are offered through the College of Health Sciences. In order to enroll in any Health and Fitness course, the student must first enroll in HS/KINS/NFS 1902 Fitness and Health: Enhancing Personal Wellness and the corequisite lab HS/KINS/NFS 1901 Fitness and Health. Both the Fitness and Health courses and Perspectives on Women's Health are "Interdisciplinary" courses and meet the university core requirement that all students must complete two "Interdisciplinary" courses. |
