Policies and Procedures
for the Fitness and Recreation Center
University Policies and Procedures: Individuals joining the University through means of a membership at TWU Fitness and Recreation are expected to observe University policies and procedures. Note: Current TWU students are active members at Fitness and Recreation.
Civility: TWU Fitness and Recreation is a place where people enjoy visiting to meet their fitness and recreation needs. To ensure a harmonious environment, individuals who are abusive, harass, or disregard the direction of Fitness and Recreation staff will result in immediate removal from the facility and resulting in additional disciplinary action which could include loss of membership privileges.
Access: All Fitness and Recreation members are issued ID cards (students, faculty, and staff are issued TWU ID cards through the department of Housing). Guests must present a valid driver’s license upon each visit (please visit Membership page for more information regarding Guests). Access to the facility ends 10 minutes prior to closing. Individuals must exit the facility by the designated closing time.
Parking: The University has strict parking regulations. A valid parking hangtag is included with Fitness and Recreation memberships (excluding students, faculty, and staff). Fitness and Recreation members may park in the designated black curbed areas and visitor’s parking. Parking in other areas will risk your car being ticketed and possibly booted or towed by University Department of Public Safety.
Paying by Check: Fitness and Recreation members are welcome to pay for memberships, products, and/or services in person by check with a valid driver’s license providing their date of birth. Members are also able to pay with cash or credit card.
Refunds: TWU Fitness and Recreation does not extend memberships or give refunds on unused portions of current memberships, personal training, or other auxiliary services. Exceptions to this policy include, but are not limited to, medical reasons with documented support from a physician.
Membership Renewals: Fitness and Recreation members must maintain an active membership to utilize our facilities. Membership dues must be paid by the expiration date in order to access facilities and programs.
Member Conduct: For safety reasons, consuming food or chewing gum and playing loud music is not permitted.
Age Requirements: All Fitness and Recreation members must be at least 16 years of age; guests must be at least 18 years of age.
Dress Code: For personal hygiene and safety, participants are required to wear appropriate athletic clothing that is supportive of physical activity. In order to prevent the spread of MRSA, ringworm, etc. shirts must cover the entire stomach, chest, and back. Closed toe athletic shoes are required. Attire that is not allowed: Jeans or pants with buttons, zippers, or rivets which can cause wear and tear on the equipment, flip flops, sandals, open back shoes, or boots.
Holidays and Semester Breaks: TWU Fitness and Recreation follows the University’s academic calendar, and therefore, reserves the right to reduce hours during breaks, between academic semesters, and during the summer. During semester breaks, TWU Fitness and Recreation may reduce hours and programs offered. During inclement weather, Fitness and Recreation will follow all university closings.
Equipment and Facility Issues: For safety reasons, please report equipment failure to Fitness and Recreation staff. Fitness and Recreation members are encouraged to refrain from dropping weights and slamming pin machine plates, re-rack all weights/plates to their designated storage areas, and to disinfect exercise equipment before and after usage.
Group Exercise Classes: Group exercise classes are first come, first serve attendance and sign-in sheets are distributed 30 minutes prior to the start of class. Class attendance is based on room size and class activity for safety purposes. Admission into classes is not allowed 10 minutes after the start time. Classes may require armbands. In the event a class is cancelled or altered, Fitness and Recreation staff will work to accommodate class needs.
Music: Fitness and Recreation attempts to play music that will appeal to a broad audience. We encourage our members to bring headphones and personal music devices as we do not accept song or station requests.
Lockers: Lockers are available on a first come, first serve basis in both men’s and women’s locker rooms. Members are encouraged to lock their valuables using their own lock. Combination locks are available for purchases at the Front Desk. Any locks left on lockers after closing time will be removed and contents stored in the Lost and Found located at the Front Desk for no more than 30 days (unclaimed contents will be donated to charity or disposed of).
