Policies and Procedures
for the Student Recreation Center
Purpose of TWU Fitness and Recreation:
TWU Fitness and Recreation is the fitness and recreation center of Texas Woman’s University. Our primary focus is to aid in recruitment and retention of students, provide resources for health and fitness, and serve the recreational needs of TWU students, faculty, and staff. Facility and program usage is also extended to community members who are not directly affiliated with TWU.
University Policies and Procedures:
Individuals joining the university’s community through a TWU Fitness and Recreation membership are expected to observe university policies and procedures. Current TWU Students are members.
Access: All members are issued ID cards. All participants wanting to access any of our facilities must show a current ID card. Guests must present a valid driver’s license upon each visit, be at least 16 years old, and sign a release form to use the facility. Access to the facility ends 10 minutes before closing. Members must be out of the facility by the designated closing time.
Parking: The University has strict parking rules. Community members are provided a valid university parking tag as part of their membership and may only park in designated black curbed areas, the visitor’s parking lot, library parking lot, or the parking lot next to the tennis courts. Parking under any other circumstances will risk your car being ticketed and possibly booted.
Civility: TWU Fitness and Recreation should be a place that people enjoy coming to in order to meet their fitness and recreational needs. As a result, individuals that are abusive, harass, or disregard the directions provided by the staff will result in immediate removal from the fitness center and may result in forfeiting their privilege of membership or additional disciplinary action.
Paying by Check: Members are welcome to pay for membership, products and services by check, but will be required to present their driver’s license and provide their home phone numbers. If individuals are reluctant to include this information, they may also pay for services with cash or credit card, but we will be unable to accept a check.
Refunds: The Fitness Center does not extend memberships or give refunds on unused portions of current memberships, personal training or other auxiliary services. A membership may be medically frozen at a member’s request with documented support from his/her physician.
Membership Renewals: Members will not be allowed to use the facility if their memberships have expired. Dues must be paid by the expiration date in order to access facilities and programs.
Member Conduct: No food or gum chewing is allowed. No loud and/or abusive language is permitted.
Age Requirements: All members must be 16 years of age or older.
Dress Code: Anyone in violation of our dress code policy will be asked to leave—no exceptions. Members must wear appropriate athletic attire at all times. T-shirts and sleeveless shirts which cover the entire stomach, chest and back (no strappy tank tops or bra tops) are allowed. Jeans and any pants with buttons or hardware (zippers/rivets) are prohibited. For your safety, closed-toe athletic shoes must be worn at all times in the Fitness Center (flip flops, sandals, open back shoes, and boots are not acceptable).
Holidays and Semester Breaks: TWU Fitness and Recreation follows TWU’s academic calendar, therefore; reserves the right to reduce hours during breaks, between academic semesters, and during the summer. During semester breaks TWU Fitness and Recreation may reduce hours and programs offered. The TWU Fitness Center may temporarily close each semester for maintenance purposes. TWU Fitness and Recreation reserves the right to close due to inclement weather and on public and university holidays.
Equipment and Facility Issues: For everyone’s safety, please do not ignore, use, or try to fix broken equipment.
If a piece of exercise equipment is broken, please report the equipment failure to the staff on duty. Do not drop weights. Do not allow machine plates to slam down. Please perform controlled reps only or you will be asked to leave. Re-rack all weights/plates to their designated storage areas. There is a 30 minute time limit on cardiovascular machines during busy times. Members are encouraged to wipe down equipment before and after use with the cleaning solution provided in spray bottles throughout the facility.
Group Exercise Class Policies: Classes are first come, first serve and have strict attendance maximums based on room size and activity. Therefore, participants should arrive at least 5-10 minutes before scheduled starting time for proper instruction. No admittance is allowed into classes past 10 minutes of start time. Some classes may require armbands. Classes may be cancelled or altered without notice.
Music: TWU Fitness and Recreation will choose music appealing to a broad audience. We also encourage patrons to bring headphones and personal music players.
Lockers: TWU Fitness and Recreation is not responsible for personal items. Day-use lockers are available in the locker rooms at no cost. Students and members must provide their own locks and remove them prior to the end of the day. Locks left on lockers after hours will be removed and contents stored at the Front Desk for no more than 30 days. Unclaimed contents will be donated to charity. No personal items may be left in the exercise areas or held by staff.
