Jean Houston Baldwin Daniel

Jean Houston Daniel was born in 1916 in Houston, Texas. She is the great-great granddaughter of a former Governor of Texas, General Sam Houston. She attended The Rice Institute, transferring to the University of Texas at Austin where she received the Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in 1937. In 1940 Jean Houston Baldwin married Price Daniel, an attorney from Liberty, Texas.

Price Daniel's career included terms as Speaker of the House, Attorney General, United States Senator, Governor of Texas, Director of Emergency Preparedness in Washington, D.C., and Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.

Jean Houston Baldwin Daniel love of Texas history resulted in her researching and writing a history of the Governor's Mansion and a comprehensive inventory of the furnishings. She also completed a collection of memorabilia representing each first family who had lived there. |

Jean Houston Baldwin Daniel was a member of the Thankful Hubbard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Austin. The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Austin Junior League and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. |

The inaugural ball gown of Jean Houston Baldwin Daniel was present to the collection by Mrs. Daniel through the Libertad Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Liberty, Texas. |
The gown was made of white Italian silk satin. Hand appliquéd beading of crystal opalescent sequins, pearls and rhinestones etches the floral motifs that encircle the princess bodice. The gentle bell-shaped skirt sweeps into a slight train. |
