Why can’t I access the Scholarship Tracking and Review System (STARS) to apply for scholarships?

Current students must access STARS through the Pioneer Portal. New students who have applied to TWU have the ability to set up a Pioneer Portal account, even if they have not enrolled in classes yet.  After a student has a portal account, it will be possible to access STARS.

I already have a scholarship. Can I apply for more?

Yes, if you already have a scholarship or scholarships, you can apply for more. However, applying for a scholarship does not guarantee that you will be awarded the scholarship. 

What is an International Student?

Generally, any student who is attending the university on a student visa, is not a United States citizen or who does not hold a Permanent Resident Alien card is classified as an international student.

What is a Non-Traditional Student?

Non-Traditional students generally fall into at least one of the following categories:

  • starting or returning to college at age of 23 or older
  • work full-time
  • married
  • have children
  • veteran 

What does part-time and full-time student mean? 

Full-time and part-time status is based on the number of credit hours a student registers for during a particular semester. For example:

Full-Time status

  • Undergraduate—enrolled for at least 12 credit hours
  • Graduate—enrolled for at least 9 credit hours
  • Teaching Assistants—enrolled for at least 6 credit hours

If a student is enrolled in the Student Teaching course for 6 credit hours, and is working for 40 hours, that student is considered full-time for scholarship eligibility.

Part-Time status

  • Undergraduate—enrolled in 6-11 credit hours
  • Graduate—enrolled in 6-8 hours

If a student is enrolled for fewer than 6 hours, he or she is not eligible for scholarships or financial aid.                 

How do I receive a scholarship?

After completing the application, you will be notified by letter if you have received an award. 

Can I begin to apply for a scholarship, leave, and then come back?

Yes. Just click “Save and Exit” on the bottom left corner of the screen. To return, log into your portal account. There, a link should be posted to take you back to the application. 

Do I need to include the last 4 digits of my zip code?

No, this is not required. Just fill in your standard five digit zip code.

How do I know how many credits I have earned?

Current TWU students can find this information on their transcripts, which can be accessed through the Pioneer Portal. 

What do I do if I do not meet all of the requirements for a scholarship?

If you do not meet all of the requirements for a scholarship, do not finish the application for that scholarship. Instead, you should apply for a scholarship for which you meet all requirements.

How and where do I attach documents?

If you need to attach documents to complete an application for a specific scholarship, this can be done on the “Attach Documents” page. To upload a document, click “Upload,” then click “Browse.” Here, you will locate a file saved on your PC. After selecting a specific file, you have the option of entering a description for the file, but this is not necessary. Finally, you should press the “Upload” button to complete the process. To download a document, select a file that already has been uploaded, and click “Download.”

Why can’t I go on to the next page?

Either a required field is not filled in or you have not clicked “Save and Continue.” One of these must occur for you to progress to the next page.

 What if I do not have a home phone number?

This field is required. However, you may list a cell phone number if this is the primary telephone number you use to be reached.
