TWU regent, husband expand scholarship program with $100K gift

Continuing a commitment to help students succeed academically, a Texas Woman’s University regent and her husband have pledged another $100,000 gift to the university to expand a scholarship program that covers four years of tuition and fees for five Denton High School graduates.

Two TWU students awarded Gilman scholarships

Texas Woman’s University students Ashley Elliot and Demetria Ober look forward to expanding their worldview thanks to their recently awarded U.S. Department of State Benjamin A. Gilman ScholarshipsThe scholarships will allow Elliot, an English major, to study abroad at Harlaxton College in England for the Spring 2022 semester and Ober, a social work major, to study abroad at Universidad de Granada in Spain for the 2021-2022 academic year.

She developed a keen interest in soccer as a small child, but it was a 2009 trip to her parents’ homeland in Nepal that expanded Binivaa Manandhar’s thoughts to weightier matters.

Manandhar, now a senior at Coppell High School, had a vivid memory of the Nepal visit that sticks with her to this day.

Empowering Women as Leaders provides scholarships and mentoring to TWU students

On Friday, Feb. 2, 16 Texas Woman’s University students received scholarships and were matched with mentors through Empowering Women as Leaders, a nonprofit organization that helps reshape women’s lives through education and mentoring.
