- Leave of Absence Without Pay
-
Faculty members desiring a leave of absence for the purpose of professional
development, to complete an advanced degree, or to recuperate from illness
should make their request in writing to the President. The request should be
routed through the dean and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Such leaves are normally granted for up to one academic year with a guarantee of
return to employment. Under exceptional circumstances the President may grant a
second consecutive year of leave. Leaves will not be granted to accept
employment at another institution unless the President deems such an appointment
is in the best interest of the University.
Credit toward tenure or for promotion purposes does not accrue during the period
of time in which a leave of absence is granted. Individuals granted any type of
leave of absence should contact the Department of Human Resources concerning the
status of their employee benefits during the leave. This contact should be made
prior to taking the official leave in order to protect all possible benefits.
