- Research Activities and
Opportunities
Texas Woman’s University
encourages faculty and staff to seek financial support for research and other
sponsored projects from sources outside the University, particularly for those
projects which support the University’s mission statement. Such sponsors
include the federal government, state agencies, corporations, and private
foundations.
The Office of Research and
Sponsored Programs assists with identification and dissemination of information
on funding sources, and works with faculty members on an individual basis as
well as conducting funding workshops. Staff members assist with all phases of
proposal development including budget preparation; filling out certification and
assurance forms; formatting, proofing, and editing proposals; checking to see
that the proposals conform to sponsor guidelines and regulations; routing the
proposals for institutional signature and submitting the proposals to the
sponsors. The office offers workshops on various aspects of proposal writing
and budget development.
The grants manager and the
research compliance coordinator work together to assist faculty with the
management of their grants and to assure compliance with agency regulations.
The office facilitates the work of the Institutional Review Board, the
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and the Institutional Biosafety
Committee. Other services include a biostatistician who is available to provide
statistical assistance and consultation to faculty and a Scientific Equipment
Repair Service.
The Office of Research and
Sponsored Programs also manages internal funding programs. Each year, there are
two cycles of competition for the Research Enhancement Program: new faculty
submit proposals to the fall competition; continuing faculty compete in the
spring. The Chancellor’s Research Fellows Program pairs faculty with strong
potential for obtaining external research funding with experienced mentors;
competition for this program is held in the spring. Through its Travel
Assistance fund, the office allocates money for fall, spring, and summer
assistance to faculty who are traveling to make major presentations.
