Distance Learning Newsletter, September 2004
Welcome to the Fall 2004 semester!
The goal of this newsletter is to keep you updated and informed about what's happening at the university - particularly with Distance Learning. We also want your input. We want to know what you particularly like, and what you think can be improved.
Because this is our first-ever Distance Learning Newsletter, we want to make sure that you know the ins and outs of our office. The core values of our mission are to provide:
- Appropriate technologies - Using technologies appropriate to educational objectives
- High-quality programming - Enhancing programmatic quality through the use of instructional tools
- Technological literacy - Unobtrusively helping ensure the technological literacy of the University's graduates
- Student-centered instruction - Focusing on instruction where student needs and aspirations are paramount
- Efficiency and effectiveness - Creating a cost-effective means of delivering many types of instruction through careful design, responsible management, and appropriately targeted programs to meet documented needs. (Adapted from the Distance Learning Strategic Plan 5/6/04)
Our purpose is also to provide you with the same support you'd get if your class was on campus. Have a question and don't know who to ask? Call us, or drop us an email. We'll point you in the right direction.
It's important to know that while we do not administer all services in our office (such as academic advising and payment processing), we will make every effort to solve your problems and make sure that you are satisfied with your Distance Learning experience. What we can do for you:
- assist with adds and drops of Distance Learning courses
- provide basic information about registration and payment
- explain how Distance Learning courses and fees work
- communicate with academic departments and other offices when you are unable to
If you're ever on campus and you need assistance, Distance Learning is housed in the Office of Lifelong Learning. You can find us on the second floor of the ACT building. We are staffed Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, and you can always reach us by phone 940.898.3411 or by email dl@twu.edu .
