E-Learning Newsletter, January 2005

Welcome to the Spring 2005 semester! In case you haven't heard about them yet, here are a few important announcements.

Online Orientation

All new and returning students, please take a few minutes to complete the Online Orientation . The orientation will walk you through the steps of creating your Pioneer Portal account and understanding its functions, logging in to and using Blackboard , and registering for online Library Services. You may also want to complete the orientation survey, if you haven't already done so.

Login Information

Starting this semester, your Pioneer Portal username and password will be used to access Blackboard and online Library Services. It's important for every student to understand that although these three systems are now connected, Portal is the official system of the University. If you need to change your personal information, including your password, you must do so through Portal.

Health Services Information

If you are enrolled in distance learning classes only (no face-to-face classes) you will have two fees waived-the Student Center fee and the Medical Services fee.  It is important to know that this makes you ineligible for services rendered by Student Health Services.  If you are enrolled in a combination of distance learning and face-to-face classes, you will be charged the Student Center and Medical Services fees.  In this case, you are eligible for services rendered by the Student Health Services.

All currently enrolled TWU students, however, may seek health insurance coverage offered by a third-party company.  This coverage does not imply treatment by Student Health Services, although the policy does work best in combination with the services provided on campus.  For more information, please read the Student Health Insurance Brochure .

For a complete explanation of University fees for the Spring 2005 semester, please take a look at the Bursar's Office website .
