"In an effort to increase the number of highly qualified school librarians in Texas, TWU and Dallas ISD were awarded the A-Plus Grant. As a recipient, I took two library science classes in the summer of 2005. Part of each class was face-to-face, but the bulk of the work was done online. The self-paced, build-your-own-schedule format was so convenient. In the middle of that summer, we were offered the chance to continue our studies via distance learning thanks to the grant. Conferences

Many prestigious conferences and trainings are attended throughout the year by nine of our staff members dedicated to distance education in the Office of Lifelong Learning. The staff uses the knowledge gained at the conferences and trainings to better support TWU’s online faculty.

In the spring of 2008, Heidi Ashbaugh, Tracey Mac Gowan and Jake McBee participated in a five-month Distance Education Certificate Program through the University of West Georgia. According to their website, the goal of the program is "To promote excellence in distance learning instruction and administration."  Our Instructional Design Team does just that with the knowledge they acquired there as well as at the various conferences and online workshops they attend.

Several major conferences that are attended by our office each year are Blackboard, Educause, Sloan-C, Texas Blackboard Users Group (TBug) and Texas Distance Learning Association (TxDLA). This academic year, we have presented at:
