Jordan Fuchs (Assistant Professor)  makes dances that extend the expressive possibilities of live performance through explorations of form and formlessness, physical relationships at close-quarters and experiments in staging and technology. His choreography has been hailed by Deborah Jowitt of the Village Voice as "Redefining chaos," and by Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times as “magical.” In 2009, Fuchs, initiated the Texas Dance Improvisation Festival, which he continues to coordinate. His latest dance-making research explores improvisation as a means of enabling co-authorship in performance.

His choreography has been commissioned by Danspace Project, Dance New Amsterdam, Kristina Isabelle, and Perpetual Motion, supported by the New York State Music Fund, and presented in New York City by Dance Theater Workshop, Movement Research at Judson Church, Queens Theatre in the Park, Dancenow/NYC, FLICfest, 92nd St. Y, Chashama and the Flea. Nationally his choreography has been presented by venues such as Sushi in San Diego, Dancer’s Group Footwork and New Performance Gallery in San Francisco, Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation, Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex in Houston, Out of the Loop Festival in Dallas, Fuse Box Festival in Austin, New Genre Arts Festival in Tulsa, and the Carriage House Stage in Providence. 

Fuchs has had the pleasure of performing with artists, including K.J. Holmes, Kirstie Simson, Leslie Scates, Sarah Gamblin, Mark Dendy, Luka Kito/Megan Boyd, Rebecca Lazier, Scott Wells, Lizz Roman, Joanne Nerenberg, and Potrezebie. He is endebted to teachers, including Ellie Klopp, Brian Kloppenberg, Jaclynn Villamil, Mestre Marcelo Pereira, Sara Shelton Mann and Keith Hennessy. He has collaborated with composers Andy Russ, Erik Pearson, Rafael Cohen, Justin Mullins, and Jason Fick, as well as with the visual artist Katie Glicksberg. He has been on faculty at Hunter College and Movement Research and taught nationally and internationally at festivals such as Tsekh Summer School in Moscow, Russia; Moving Arts at Earthdance and Danz'Aqui Festival Internacional
in Puerto Rico. 

Fuchs is a recipient of the prestigious 2012 Texas Woman’s University’s Mary Mason Lyon Award for Excellence in Scholarship, Teaching and Service as well as a 2010 New Faculty Research Enhancement Award.

From 2000-2007 he was a Dance Specialist in the Dance Division of the New York Public Library. He holds a BA in Religion from Oberlin College and an MFA in Choreography from Ohio State University, where he was a University Fellow.
