SPRING 2012 GROUPS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

 

VOICES OF RECOVERY: HEALING FROM SEXUAL ABUSE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT – This group is designed to help women in the process of recovering from the traumatic effects of sexual abuse and sexual assault as a child or adult. The focus of the group will be on empowering women to find ways to heal and move forward from their trauma. Topics may include common reactions to sexual abuse, healthy coping skills, social support, intimacy and relationship concerns, trust, and breaking through feelings of shame and secrecy.

 DAY & TIME: MONDAYS 4:30–6:00 PM
START DATE: February 20, 2012

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS – This group is open to students interested in increasing their understanding of how to have healthy relationships by gaining awareness about their relationship patterns, boundaries, and emotional needs. If you have ever struggled with difficult relationships, had difficulty balancing your needs with those of others, frequently disagreed with a partner, had conflict with roommates, family members, friends or wondered why you can’t find the right romantic partner you may benefit from this group.

DAY & TIME: TUESDAYS 2:30–4:00 PM
START DATE: February 21, 2012

PERSONAL GROWTH GROUP – This group is open to students who are interested in developing a greater understanding and acceptance of themselves and others, and motivated to explore patterns in their relationships. Presenting concerns vary widely from depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, difficulties relating to and accepting self or others, low self-esteem, and relationship and family concerns.

DAY & TIME: WEDNESDAYS 4:30–6:00 PM

SOCIAL CONFIDENCE & SELF-ESTEEM – So, you feel awkward and anxious in social situations? Do you struggle with finding the "right" thing to say when talking with others? Do you wish you were more skilled in interacting with others in any or all areas of your life? This group is open to students hoping to learn about the impact of self-esteem on one’s ability to interact socially, in addition to seeking skills and confidence in communicating with friends, family, coworkers, professors, etc.

DAY & TIME: WEDNESDAYS 3:00–4:30 PM

LGBTQ SUPPORT – Looking for a safe place to discuss and explore issues related to sexual orientation and /or gender identity? Join us if you are interested in discussing topics such as questioning your sexuality, coming out, accepting your identity, and dealing with homophobia. The group is designed for individuals to provide and receive support when facing these challenging situations.

DAY & TIME: THURSDAYS 3:30–4:30 PM

Hours of Operation

In the fall and spring semesters, the Counseling Center on the Denton Campus is open Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summer hours for the Denton Campus are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours at the Dallas and Houston Centers vary each semester and are posted at those centers.
