Application Information for SLIS scholarships
The purpose of Library and Information Studies scholarships is to support students with sound academic credentials who show evidence of high potential for success in librarianship.
A limited number of scholarships are awarded by the School of Library and Information Studies. The deadline for receiving completed scholarship applications is March 21, with award notification to be made April 15. Other scholarships will be awarded during the year as monies become available.
Applicants for scholarships must adhere to the following requirements:
- Must be admitted to the University and to the School of Library and Information Studies
- Must be enrolled for a minimum of six hours each semester while the scholarship is in effect
- Must reapply for any scholarship not used in the semester for which it was awarded
Some scholarships originate from designated funds which have their own requirements. General criteria for awarding scholarships are:
- A minimum 3.0 academic average (on a 4 point scale) for previous academic work
- Evidence of academic excellence (e.g., GRE scores, awards, honors, theses, citations for presentations or published works, etc.)
- Evidence of potential for success in librarianship (e.g., work experience, special projects, professional goals, a letter of recommendation, etc.)
Each application packet should include:
- A completed School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) Scholarship Application form
- A letter addressed to the Director of the School of Library and Information Studies presenting a statement of career goals
- Evidence of your academic excellence and potential for success in librarianship
and a curriculum vita or resume
