Library Science Minor for Nursing Students

The Library Science minor in the College of Nursing's Doctoral Program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge base necessary to locate, retrieve, and manage health information in print and electronic environments. In addition, students gain an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of Library Science and develop a conceptual framework for applying information-related research to their careers.

The School of Library and Information Studies prepares students for leadership roles in the information professions and as information specialists in a variety of roles in private and public agencies. The School is accredited by the American Library Association and offers a Master of Art, Master of Library Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Library Science degrees

Application Procedure

Interested individuals should discuss the Library Science minor with their College of Nursing faculty advisor.

Courses

The Library Science minor requires 18 semester hours of course work, 6 of which are University recognized research tools. Approved research tools are:

LS 5573 The Internet
LS 5553 Electronic Information Retrieval

Other courses may be chosen from a variety of electives and are selected on an individual basis in conjunction with Library Science faculty advisors. Electives are chosen in light of the student's area of interest. Examples of electives include:
