Congratulations to 2008 ALA Essay Contest winner:
Laura Brownell

Each year, the American Library Association sponsors a Student-Staff project during its annual conference. This program offers students of official ALA Student Chapters the opportunity to attend ALA and to be involved behind the scenes. ALA benefits because it receives help, fresh perspectives, and enthusiasm from the students that participate.

For participants in this program, ALA covers the student registration fee and provides housing and a per diem. In return, students must work 20 hours, typically four hours per day, during the conference. Duties may involve clerical, sales, or computer use, and are assigned based on a short questionnaire that matches interests and skills to an appropriate job.

GLISA supports this program by paying for air fare to and from the conference.
*Personal expenses are NOT included.
