The SLIS distance education program at TWU allows students to complete all of the coursework for the master's degree online. Some online courses offer up to three optional face-to-face meetings during the semester (on Saturdays) so that students can meet their professors and other classmates, but these meetings are not required. In addition, a regular full day or half day forum is held each semester providing all students the opportunity to come to campus, meet faculty and staff, and attend sessions on a variety of topics of interest (such as the Practicum, final Portfolios, certification requirements, etc.).
The components of a Distance Education program mesh favorably with the demands of the library profession as a whole. Skills acquired in information technologies, communication, time management, and problem solving are very important assets for today's librarians.
Distance Learning at TWU - Online courses at TWU are highly interactive. Instructors use a course website called Blackboard for posting lectures and reading assignments. Students participate through discussion boards and/or chat rooms and e-mail. Assignments are submitted electronically. For more information on Distance Learning at TWU, go to: http://www.twu.edu/dl/.
