Kathy Short
Keynote Speaker

Kathy G. Short has focused her work on literature circles, curriculum as inquiry, and collaborative learning environments for teachers and children. She is a professor in the Department of Language, Reading and Culture at the University of Arizona and has worked extensively with teachers to develop curriculum that actively involves students as readers and inquirers. She is co-editor of Language Arts, journal of the National Council of Teachers of English, and co-author of many books, including Creating Classrooms for Authors and Inquirers, Learning Together through Inquiry, Literature as a Way of Knowing, and Talking about Books. Her most recent book is Stories Matter: The Complexity of Cultural Authenticity in Children’s Literature. She directs a center on international children’s and adolescent literature at the University of Arizona.

Proposals Invited

You are invited to submit a proposal (see categories below).  Proposals are invited for sessions that contribute to the following areas of focus:

  • Classroom Interactions that Support Inquiry
  • Response to Literature
  • Engaging Contexts for Literacy Learning
  • Supporting classroom authors
  • Engaging students through quality literature

Break-out sessions will be scheduled in 60 minute blocks. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, complete the attached proposal submission form or complete the form online by going to http://www.twu.edu/cope/rd/spicola/proposal.html.

Online or mailed submissions are due by January 2nd .  If your proposal is selected, we will contact you by January 7th.
