Counseling and Family Therapy Clinic

The TWU Counseling and Family Therapy Clinic, housed within the Department of Family Sciences, provides counseling for families, couples, groups, and individuals both adults and children. We work with people experiencing a wide variety of concerns and difficulties by offering different types of services, including family therapy, marital/relationship therapy, group counseling, individual counseling, and play therapy.

Our Commitment
Our primary mission is to work with individuals, couples, and families in creating meaningful solutions to the problems they face. The clinic provides an atmosphere of respect and dignity where each individual and family can be effectively served. Focusing on the natural resources of families, couples, and individuals, we help people create practical and often brief ways in which they can solve dilemmas and problems.

Fees
Fees are assessed on a sliding fee schedule that is much lower than the standard set by private practice counselors. Every client pays a fee to be seen in the clinic; however, it is our policy to make counseling, educational, and preventive services affordable for every family, couple, and individual.

Location
The Counseling and Family Therapy Clinic is located in room 114 of the Human Development Building (HDB) on the TWU Denton campus (Bldg. #11 on the map). This building is located on Old Main Circle, which can be entered from Bell Avenue or Texas Street. The clinic staff will provide parking instructions when an initial appointment is made.

Clinical Services Staff
Clinical services are provided by doctoral and master's level family therapists and counselors in the Department of Family Sciences. Many of the doctoral students are licensed by the state of Texas in family therapy and counseling. The supervisors, who are clinical graduate faculty members in the Department of Family Sciences, supervise each case by weekly consultation with the therapists. As a training facility, videotaping, audiotaping, and/or observation behind a one way mirror, by video or in the therapy room by other therapists and supervisors occurs regularly in the clinic as an additional benefit to clients. All clinical faculty have earned doctoral degrees, are licensed by the state of Texas, and have more than 100 years of combined experience helping families and individuals overcome problems. Educational and preventive services are provided by doctoral and master's level students in child development and family studies within the Department of Family Sciences.

Confidentiality
All services and records are handled with strict confidentiality to protect those using the clinic's services. Reports or information will be released only after obtaining written permission from every adult client involved in the counseling process, in accordance with Texas law.
