The programs of the College of Professional Education design ways to place knowledge in service to society. Four components comprise the College: the Department of Family Sciences, the Department of Reading, the Department of Teacher Education and the School of Library and Information Studies.
Programs in the College of Professional Education are housed in the Multipurpose Classroom Laboratory Building (MCL), Stoddard Hall (SH) and the Human Development Building (HDB).
The College of Professional Education provides undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Science and graduate programs leading to the Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Education, Master of Library Science, Master of Science, Doctor of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. For specific degree and program information, see departmental listings. Programs in the College of Professional Education are accredited by the State Board for Educator Certification.
University Teacher Education Program
The University is committed to a strong and thorough program for the preparation of teachers. The program responds to the State plan for teacher competencies by carefully constructing curricula in accord with State standards.
The Dean and the faculty of the College coordinate the teacher education program in concert with the Teacher Education Council. This Council includes representatives from all academic specializations related to teacher certification as well as from the College of Professional Education. Academic advising is available to each student from both the academic specialization and the College. |
