SCHOLARSHIPS: The departments of COPE have a limited number of scholarships. Interested students are invited to secure an application form from the department secretary.

- Department of TEACHER EDUCATION

- Project GATEWAY - Scholarships for mid-career professionls and recent graduates wishing to enter the teaching field in the Dallas area. Covers tuition and fees for 24 graduate credit hours towards a Teacher Certification and a Master of Arts in Teaching.

- Clifton Tinsley Sparks Memorial Scholarship - Established by friends of Dr. Sparks, former Dean of the College of Education. Recipients must be enrolled in the undergraduate teacher education program or be academically eligible for admission to undergraduate teacher education. Preference is given to students with financial need.

- Spencer L. Stoker Graduate Endowed Scholarship - Established by the estate of Dr. Stoker, provides awards to graduate students in education. Dr. Stoker served the University as Chairman of the Education Department for many years. He is remembered as a dedicated and caring teacher and a fine administrator.

- Del Barto Endowed Scholarship - Established by the Del Barto-Tramonte Foundation. Provides scholarships for students majoring in the fields of nursing, education and health studies.

- Alicia Travelle Memorial Scholarship - Mr. John Travelle, husband of Dr. Maria Alicia Travelle, established the scholarship to support female students in the undergraduate program pursuing studies in elementary/bilingual education with at least a 2.50 grade point average.

- Melvin E. Rust Endowed Memorial Scholarship - Friends and family of Melvin Rust, former member of the faculty of TWU, have established a permanent fund to support scholarship awards in his memory to students who are preparing to teach.

- Natha Howell Endowed Scholarship - Established by Ms. Natha Elizabeth Howell to provide funds to be used for the education and preparation of students in becoming teachers.

- Nina Scott Hulsey Endowed Memorial Scholarship - Established by Selette Hulsey Pearce, class of 1957, in memory of her mother Nina Scott Hulsey, a 1929 graduate of TWU. This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate student in elementary education who shows promise and needs financial aid.


- Grace Fewell Carothers Endowed Scholarship - Established by Mrs. Katherine Moore in memory of her sister, Grace Carothers, for students majoring in Early Childhood Education.

- Educational Administration

- Dunbar Memorial Educational Scholarship Endowment - David H. Dunbar established the Dunbar Memorial Scholarship to provide a stream of income to support scholarships to assist worthy students in the pursuit of an education degree with a major in (1) administration as a first priority; (2) Math as a second priority; (3) followed by Elementary Education of English.

- Special Education

- Gab & Joseph Crighton Endowed Scholarship - Established by a very dear friend of Gabrielle and Joseph Crighton for students interested in studying dyslexia or majoring within the area of Early Childhood and Special Education.

- Ethel M. Leach Special Education Scholarship - This scholarship, established by Ralph Leach in honor of his mother, Dr. Ethel Leach, is to be awarded to an outstanding student of Special Education.

- Patrick Griffin Memorial Scholarship - Established by friends and colleagues in memory of Patrick Griffin and is to be used for a student majoring in Therapeutic Recreation at TWU.

- Kathryn & Alex Williams Endowed Scholarship -
Established by Kay Williams Goodman, former member of the TWU Board of Regent and an alumna, and her husband Robert Goodman, in memory of her parents, Kathryn and Alex Williams for students whose majors are within the Department of Early Childhood and Special Education.

- Department of READING

- Lillian Rizzo Spicola Scholarship - Established to provide scholarships to graduate students majoring in reading. Recipients must demonstrate financial need, high scholastic ability and a personal commitment to teaching.

- Melba Gheen McClain Scholarship -
Established to provide scholarship majoring in the Department of Reading within the College of Professional Education. Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 who demonstrates competence, commitment and enthusiasm in their chosen field of study to teach reading.

- School of LIBRARY and INFORMATION STUDIES
