The Department of Family Sciences, chaired by Dr. Larry LeFlore, facilitates the development of learning and competencies in students who will enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in a diverse global society. Master of Science programs are offered in the areas of Child Development, Counseling and Development, Family Studies and Family Therapy. The Master of Education program is offered in Early Childhood Education. At the doctoral level, the Department of Family Sciences offers Ph.D. degree programs in Child Development, Family Studies and Family Therapy and an Ed.D. program in Early Childhood Education.

The Department of Reading, chaired by Dr. Margaret Compton-Hall, offers coursework toward all initial teaching certificates. At the graduate level, the Department offers complete programs leading to the degrees of Master of Arts, Master of Education, Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Education. A program leading to Texas Master Reading Teacher Certification is also available.

The Department of Teacher Education, chaired by Dr. Nan Restine, offers courses in support of undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate teacher preparation, and graduate studies in the areas of education, bilingual education, special education and educational administration.

The School of Library and Information Studies, chaired by Dr. Ling-Hwey Jeng, prepares students for leadership roles in the information professions, including careers in librarianship and communications and as information specialists in a variety of roles in private and public agencies.
