COPE Outstanding Student Awards

Faculty members are invited to nominate outstanding students for the following awards.  Information should include your rational for nominating the student and how his/her work reflects high standards.

Students may be:

1)  Nominated by professor for outstanding work in the following areas:

  • Dissertation
  • Thesis
  • Professional paper
  • MAT Portfolio
  • Seminar in Literacy Research project
  • Research seminar papers
  • Student author published article (student is first author)
  • Conference papers/conference proposals
  • Other culminating papers or projects

Students nominated for these awards are required to write an overview of their research/work. (Narrative should not exceed 1page)

2)  Nominated by cooperating teacher and/or university supervisor for outstanding student teacher:  Awards based on calendar year: spring/fall

Students nominated for this award must submit a portfolio that includes:

  • Letter from cooperating teacher and/or letter from university supervisor
     
  • Sample lesson plan and activity associated with it including student artifacts
     
  • Narrative (not to exceed 1 page) that:
    - Includes information about your goals for becoming a teacher,
    - Explains lesson plan and activity,
    - Explains how student teaching impacted your professional growth, and
    - Shares information about what you perceive to be your next step.

3)  Nominated by faculty advisor for outstanding members of an  organization:

  • Who's Who
  • Mortar Board
  • Golden Key
  • Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society (Multidisciplinary Association)
  • Outstanding Graduate Award
  • Outstanding Undergraduate Award
  • Beta Phi Mu National Honor Society (Library Science)
  • Student Associations (GLISA, Graduate Library and Information Studies Association))
  • Other

Students nominated for this award must submit documentation of activities and community service in which they have participated. Documentation should indicate level of participation and organizational responsibilities. (Narrative should not exceed 1 page)

4)  a. Nominated by site supervisor and/or faculty supervisor for the graduate intern award (Including SLIS Practicum, MAT Internship Candidates)

      b. Nominated by site supervisor and/or faculty supervisor for the undergraduatepracticum award

Students nominated for this award must submit artifacts that reflect the quality of their experiences and a narrative that discusses the artifacts and shows their growth as a professional.  (Narrative should not exceed 2 pages)

5)  Students who have received the following scholarships for the current year will also be honored at the awards ceremony. Please submit the names of winners.

  • Toulouse Scholarship
  • McNair Scholars
  • Honors scholar program
  • Pi Delta Kappa
  • Beta Phi Mu
  • Taliaferro Scholarship
  • Lillian Spicola Doctoral Scholarship in Reading
  • Margaret Griffin Doctoral Scholarship Endowment in Reading
  • Other
