. . . . I run an athletic program for mentally challenged children and adults throughout Dallas and the surrounding area. I recently spoke at a Denton ISD special needs program where I met a TWU Phd graduate student who is a teacher with your special needs adaptive PE program.
As the father of a special needs son, I’ve worked for years to insure these kids have the same things that normal kids have. One of my projects is a golf program that I conduct in Denton for about 7 players. TWU immediately identified 10 additional players and provided the additional volunteers (TWU students) to assist. I have never met a more energetic, sincere and hard working group of volunteers in my life. They all seem to embrace my ideas. This is so important because they will become the new leaders that will change the mindset the world has regarding our kids with special needs.
Many times in an organization, the management team forget how to lead. It seems the management team of TWU has reached all levels with a sincere drive to help the special needs community. Thank you for your vision and more importantly thank you for the help TWU and the students have given Unique Athletes In Action!
Re: Denton Arts & Jazz Festival
Around 8:00 am Saturday morning, an army of TWU athletes, coaches, faculty and other TWU students descended on the art tent and did everything from helping set up, working with children, etc....it didn’t stop there.
On Sunday evening when most volunteers were gone, TWU volunteers stayed and cleaned up, folded chairs and tables, helped with tents, loaded vans and more. Please thank them for me. Its breathtaking to see these students, faculty and staff do their thing at yet another Denton event.

On May 14th, 2010, my 29 year old daughter (Shannon Breckenridge) and I will graduate together from TWU as eMBA graduate students. We will proudly walk the stage together, as TWU grad students, receiving our degree - with great pride. As a mother I have an incredible sense of pride for my daughters accomplishments. To make this even more special, is the opportunity to have accomplished a task from my own bucket list (yes I am 51 years young) and to be able to share it with Shannon. Never in my wildish dreams did I think this would have happened, but I thank TWU for the opportunity to experience this remarkable event in our lives. I will forever hold TWU and my graduate degree a special place in my heart and one of my top live's experiences. Bless you and this fine institution!!!
Please feel free to share our story with any one you choose to do so because Shannon and I hold our head high as soon to be TWU alumni! We encourage all to take the step to make TWU their school of choice!!!
