Center taps new cohort for women’s business training program

Seven women entrepreneurs in the Houston area are getting expert training on overcoming obstacles with their early-stage businesses through the innovative AccelerateHER Program, offered by the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership at Texas Woman’s University.

The AccelerateHER program was created specifically for woman-owned startup companies and provides entrepreneurs with resources and education to grow their businesses. It is facilitated by the Institute’s Center for Women Entrepreneurs (CWE), which is committed to helping women in Texas become successful business owners. The program offers women a support system to develop their business at any stage into a successful long-term venture.

Seven program participants were selected to participate in the CWE’s second round of training offered in the Houston area. They are:

The participants meet weekly through March 2024. CWE provides intensive entrepreneurial training from industry experts on topics relating to business planning, acquiring customers, finance and marketing strategies. Participants are provided unlimited access to a private dedicated workspace at Sesh Coworking. Small business advisor Dr. Sharita Humphrey is the facilitator to the Houston community, and brings her own experiences as an entrepreneur.

“It is exciting to see the growth each woman makes in the program and the confidence they gain as business owners,” said Tracy Irby, CWE director. “They will now be more prepared to face the joys and hurdles of entrepreneurship.”

The Center for Women Entrepreneurs is a program of the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership at Texas Woman’s University. The institute is dedicated to preparing women for successful roles in business and public service. Its three specialized centers ensure women have the education to establish careers as successful executives, the skills for building entrepreneurial businesses, and the framework needed to run for public office.
