Study Abroad Continuing Education Course Procedures for TWU Academic Departments
Academic Departmental Procedures for Including Continuing Education Participants
Lifelong Learning Proposal Form (PDF)
Under TWU policies, study abroad courses cannot include any traveler who is not a student or TWU employee. If non-students or non-employees wish to participate in the study course, they must be registered as a CE (Continuing Education) participant in order to travel with the TWU group.
Academic departments may provide opportunities for these participants through a partnership with the Office of Lifelong Learning by offering a continuing education study abroad course that is paired with the academic course. Continuing Education participants will pay a required fee of $125, which allows them to join the trip as part of university-sponsored program, receiving continuing education units (CEU), and covering the cost of the university insurance.
In order to offer CEU’s for study abroad credit courses, we must have accurate information about the non-credit instruction component of the trip. The Lifelong Learning course proposal form (PDF) lists the information we must have on file to offer CEU’s. Once the form is submitted to us, we will place a link on our Continuing Education web page and begin marketing the program to potential participants. Any non-credit participants must be approved by the course director/instructor, who will be provided with a registration link that allows them to directly control the non-credit participation in the course. They will only be able to register online at our Continuing Education website and paying the required fee of $125 after receiving permission from you.
Departments that wish to establish a continuing education course paired with their academic study abroad course should follow these procedures and guidelines.
- Determine availability of space on the trip. Do you/can you take additional participants?
- Complete course proposal form (PDF) at least 4 months prior to your scheduled departure date.
- Return the form and trip brochure for the study abroad course to Lifelong Learning.
- Lifelong Learning will calculate the number of CEU’s to be awarded and post the information on the trip registration website.
- Lifelong Learning will provide a web registration address for distribution to the faculty member for non-credit continuing education participants. Trip leaders will retain full control over who participates in the trip.
We look forward to promoting and helping to increase the Study Abroad program through Continuing Education participation. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at 940.898.3408.
