DENTON SPORTS COMMISION AWARDS ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE
Barberee Named Sears College Coach of the Year
DENTON,
Tex. – TWU
volleyball coach Shelly Barberee earned
Sears Coach of the Year honors at the third annual Greater
Denton Sports Commission (GDSC) Athletic Banquet on Monday
night at the Gateway Center at the University of North Texas.
Barberee
arrived at Texas Woman’s
University in 2003 and made an immediate impact on the volleyball
program, taking the team from worst to first. Not only did
she earn Lone Star Conference North Division Coach of the
Year honors in her first season, she also led the Pioneers
to their best record since 1997. She coached six All-Conference
selections in 2003, more than any other Lone Star school.
Perhaps, more impressively, she coached a team that compiled
a 3.47 grade point average during their season with four
of her players posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
