THREE PIONEERS EARN CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC AWARDS
Madrid named to the LSC All-Tournament Team

DENTON, TX—The Lone Star Conference announced the 2003 North Division All-Academic awards and senior’s Marci Brinkman (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith HS) and Heather Smith (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala HS) were selected to the All-Academic Team. Junior Melanie Pabalate (Fort Worth, TX/Navarro College) was named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. This is Smith and Brinkman’s first ever Conference All-Academic Team selection.

Brinkman totaled 336 kills and led the team with 117 total blocks and 39 service aces in 2003. She recorded five double-double performances and finished with a season-high 18 kills vs. Incarnate Word on Sept. 19. Smith finished second with a career-high 347 kills and also chipped in with 200 digs, 46 blocks and 28 aces. She also had five double-doubles in kills and digs and turned in a season-high 21 kills vs. Central Oklahoma on Oct. 18.

Jenny Madrid (Panama City, Panama/Hill College) was one of seven players named the 2003 Lone Star Conference All-Tournament Team. She totaled 32 kills in TWU’s two matches and hit at a .338 clip. She also had nine digs and four block assists. Madrid led the team in kills on the year with 387 and finished second on the team with 37 service aces and 99 total blocks. She turned in a season-high 22 kills vs. Central Oklahoma on Oct. 18. The other six members of the All-Tournament Team were Kendra Morgan (setter, West Texas A&M), who was named Most Valuable Player, Kacie Hyatt (libero, West Texas A&M), Ambra Clark (outside hitter, West Texas A&M), Stacy Meek (setter, Central Oklahoma), Tori Walker (middle blocker, Central Oklahoma) and Kelsey Kosick (outside hitter, Cameron).
