PIONEERS RECORD MOST VICTORIES IN A SEASON SINCE 1997

DENTON, TX—Texas Woman’s University (12-15, 6-0 LSC) used a .250 attack percentage and every player on their roster to beat Southeastern Oklahoma (3-28, 0-6 LSC) for the third time this season, 3-0 (30-18, 30-16, 30-24). With the victory, the Pioneers earn their 12th win of the season, the most since 1997 when TWU went 24-13. Marci Brinkman (Carrollton, TX/Newman Smith H.S.) led the Pioneers with a match-high 13 kills and a career-high seven block assists.

"Tonight was a complete team victory because everyone on the roster saw action on the floor. They rebounded from a slow performance on Tuesday night and played well," head coach Shelly Barberee said. "We hit well tonight, finishing with a .250 attack percentage and blocked the Southeastern Oklahoma attack well. Marci Brinkman turned in a great performance with 13 kills, 10 digs and eight total blocks."

TWU jumped out quickly on the Lady Savages with a 5-2 lead in game one. SOSU battled back and knotted the game at 7-7 when the Pioneers went on a 12-4 run, thanks to five kills from Jenny Madrid (Panama City, Panama/Hill College) and Courtney Lewis (San Antonio, TX/Panola College). TWU finished off the first game, 30-18, with a .295 hitting percentage. The Pioneers controlled game two by recording 10 blocks while the Lady Savages committed seven hitting errors and three service errors en route to a 30-16 win. In the final frame, the score was tied 5-5 when Robin Hawkins (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound H.S.) and Ana Kordic (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Arkansas-Little Rock) spurred an 11-4 TWU run with 11 kills. SOSU was not done as they closed within four, 24-20, thanks to a couple of kills from Lindsey Lea, but that was as close as the Lady Savages would come. Melanie Pabalate (Fort Worth, TX/Navarro College) chipped in with two kills late in the game to give the Pioneers a 30-24 victory.

TWU finished the match with 52 kills and 14 errors on 149 swings for an attack percentage of .255. Brinkman recorded her fourth double-double of the season when she added 10 digs to her 13 kills. A trio of Pioneers shared the setting duties tonight as Carley Messmer (Garland, TX/UT-San Antonio) had a match-high 19 assists, Meredith Fry (Burnet, TX/Burnet H.S.) chipped in with 11 and Sheri Hughes (Arlington, TX/Des Moines C.C.) recorded a season-high 13. Kordic finished the match with a season-high six kills.

Up next, the Pioneers face Texas A&M-Commerce at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 in Kitty Magee Arena. TWU began their 10-match winning streak with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Lions in Commerce, Tex. on Oct. 2.
