EXTEND WIN STREAK TO THREE MATCHES
WICHITA
FALLS, TX—Texas Woman’s
University (5-15, 3-0 LSC) and conference rival Midwestern
State (11-12, 1-2 LSC) played fairly even
in their volleyball match with the Pioneers hitting
slightly higher with a .169 compared to the Lady Indians
.136. The difference in the match came down to service
aces and errors as TWU rolled to a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24,
30-26) victory on the strength of 12 aces and six less
hitting errors.
"We didn’t play are best match tonight, but we played good enough
to win. The team was not hitting or receiving very well, but our serving kept
us in the match," head coach Shelly Barberee said. "We have a rotation
in place right now that the team has confidence in and it is paying off with
victories. The team played hard throughout the match and never let Midwestern
State take the lead. Jenny Madrid stepped up and played a great match, finishing
with 12 kills."
Game
one proved to be the closest of the match as the scored
was tied 12 times and the lead changed hands four times
before TWU was able to take
control and win 30-26 with 17 kills on 51 swings. The Pioneers took control
of the match in game two, as they never trailed with the help of a match-high
.209 hitting percentage, winning the second frame 30-24. Midwestern State
committed 13 hitting errors, compared to TWU’s three, en route
to a 30-26 loss in game three, handing the win to the Pioneers.
TWU
finished with 44 kills and 21 errors on 136 swings for
a .169 attack percentage. Jenny Madrid (Panama
City, Panama/Hill College) led
the Pioneers with 12 kills while Paz Diaz (Truth or Consequences,
NM/N.M. Military Institute) finished with a team-high 15 digs.
Midwestern State had two players in double figures in kills with Joni
Martin leading the way with 12, but 12 return errors and 27 hitting errors
proved to be the team’s undoing.

next, the Pioneers continue their road trip as they to
Tarleton State for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Oct.
9. TWU returns home for the first time since Aug. 30 to face Texas A&M-Kingsville
on Saturday, Oct. 11. The match will begin at 2 p.m. in Kitty Magee
Arena.
