SMITH
NAMED LONE STAR CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE
PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
DENTON, TX—Texas Woman’s
University volleyball player Heather Smith (Chino
Hills, CA/Ayala H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference North
Division Offensive Player-of-the-Week for the week of Sept.
29-Oct. 4, 2003 because of her play in TWU’s two
conference matches this past weekend. Smith averaged 3.86
kills per game last week, topping TWU’s balanced
attack with 16 kills, eight digs and three blocks in the
Pioneers’ victory over Texas A&M-Commerce on
Oct. 2. She added 11 kills and two service aces in a three-game
win over Southeastern Oklahoma on Oct. 4.
TWU
now has an overall record of 4-15, but sits atop the Lone
Star Conference North Division with a 2-0 record. Smith leads
the team in kills (181),
kills per game (2.83) and attack percentage (.227). She has also totaled
seven assists, 15 service aces, 90 digs and 19 total blocks in 2003.
The
Pioneer volleyball team is on the road vs. Midwestern State
on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and Tarleton State on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Both matches have a start
time of 7 p.m. They finally return home on Saturday, Oct. 11 to host
Texas A&M-Kingsville at 2 p.m.
