EARNS FOURTH STRAIGHT ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTION

senior Adalene Wright
(Garland, TX/South Garland HS) keeps collecting the
post-season honors as she was named to the 2002 All-Lone
Star Conference North Division Second Team for the fourth
consecutive season. She is the first volleyball player since
Sarah Steinmetz (1993-96) to be named All-Conference for
four straight years.
Wright finished her four-year career with 1,515 kills, 1,123
digs and 289 total blocks while being named Academic All-Conference
for two years. She led the Pioneers in kills for a third straight
season, earning 396 kills, 352 digs and 75 total blocks in
114 games played in 2002. Wright was named to the Verizon Academic
All-District VI First Team for a second straight season last
week.
Lone Star Conference North division
champion Central Oklahoma topped the All-Conference selection
list with four players selected to the first team squad.
The team was voted on by the division's six head coaches. UCO
senior Alma Brahimaj, a four-time, first-team choice, was
joined on the squad by teammates Lexy Fortner, Stacey Meek
and Tori Walker. Player-of-the-year honors went to Cameron's
Kelsey Kosic. The senior from British Columbia, Canada led
the LSC in kills per game (4.76), service aces (0.73) and
digs per game (4.02). Texas A&M-Commerce had the two
remaining first-teamers with Chantae Weathers and Amy Wallace
completing the seven-person, first-team squad. Other top
awards went to Sarah Wedberg of Texas A&M-Commerce as
the defensive player-of-the-year while Midwestern State's
Kate Pence was chosen as the division's top freshman. UCO's
Mark Herrin, who guided the Bronchos to a 30-6 record and
their second consecutive North division title, was chosen
as the coach-of-the-year.
