WRIGHT NAMED FIRST TEAM VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VI

DENTON, TX—Senior outside hitter Adalene Wright (Garland, TX/South Garland HS) was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI First Team for the second consecutive season. The Academic All-District VI volleyball team is made up of 18 athletes from four different states with eight of those players coming from the Lone Star Conference. All honorees were selected from the College Division, District VI of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Wright finished her four-year career with 1,515 kills, 1,123 digs and 289 total blocks while being named Second Team All-Conference North Division for three years and Academic All-Conference for two years. She led the Pioneers in kills for a third straight season, earning 396 kills, 352 digs and 75 total blocks in 114 games played in 2002. Wright will now advance for national consideration with the possibility of being named Verizon Academic All-America. In 2001, Wright became the first volleyball player in TWU history to earn Academic All-America honors when she was placed on the Verizon Second Team.
