TEXAS WESLEYAN DROPS
PIONEERS IN THREE
FORT
WORTH, TXTexas Woman's University (7-23)
struggled both offensively and defensively in a 0-3 (22-30,
27-30, 25-30) loss to Texas Wesleyan (10-8) Tuesday
night. The Pioneers recorded just 31 kills on 128 swings for
an attack percentage of .086. April Hollub (Weimar, TX/Weimar
H.S.) led the team with eight kills and three block assists.
Texas Wesleyan took control of game one by hitting .387 with
16 kills and jumped to a 1-0 lead in the match with a 22-30
win. In game two, the Pioneers broke on top 8-5 with the help
of two aces by April Hollub and a couple of kills from Adalene
Wright (Garland, TX/South Garland H.S.). The Rams staged
a comeback and knotted the game up at 10 apiece before each
team started flip-flopping for the lead. With the score 19-19,
Texas Wesleyan went on an 11-8 run to win the second game 27-30.
The final game was close as both teams exchanged the lead five
times before the Pioneers mistakes caught up with them. The
Rams recorded 15 kills and capitalized on 11 TWU errors to
win the game, 25-30, and the match.
The Pioneers finished the match with 31 kills and 20 errors
on 128 attempts for a hitting percentage of .086. They totaled
29 assists, 46 digs and 12 block assists while allowing Texas
Wesleyan to hit .305 with 46 kills and 14 errors on 105 swings.
Wright and Heather Smith (Chino Hills, CA/Ayala H.S.) each
chipped in with seven kills while Smith finished with a team-high
nine digs. Sheri Hughes (Arlington, TX/Des Moines C.C.) and Meredith
Fry (Burnet, TX/Burnet H.S.) shared the setting duties
with Hughes leading the way with 14 while Fry recorded 10 on
the night.
The
Pioneers finish out their 2002 season by hosting conference
rivals Central Oklahoma and Cameron on Friday and
Saturday, Nov. 8-9. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
